Wix vs WordPress page weight: how much does a phone download to open a site?
The median Wix page sends a phone 1,634 KB of JavaScript and the median WordPress page 638 KB (HTTP Archive's Web Almanac 2025). The 11 iNterGine demo sites send 53 to 56 KB.
Page weight is the one speed number a business owner can grasp without a lesson: less to download means the page opens sooner, especially on a phone.
JavaScript: the part the platform controls
JavaScript is the code a phone has to download and then run before the page answers a tap. Its size is set by the platform, not by your photos, which is why it is the fairest number to compare.
The 11 demos use different mixes of store, booking, forms, galleries and the installable app, and on every one's home page the platform's JavaScript stayed between 53 and 56 KB, whatever the design: a resort, a vet, a church, a coffee shop.
Total weight: code, photos, fonts and all
Most of what is left on an iNterGine page is photos, and those are the site's own choice. The heaviest demo home page (1,497 KB) is also the one with the most photo data; the lightest is 384 KB. The Almanac's 2025 chapter gives no total for Wix; its 2024 chapter put Wix's median at 2,215 KB on a phone.
Want a like-for-like test?
Medians compare millions of different sites. For one site built twice, see the real speed test: a Wix site rebuilt word for word on our platform, whose phone home page went from 1,660 KB to 531 KB and from a Lighthouse score of 46 to 86.

Method: each home page opened 3 times in Chrome with an empty cache, at a phone's screen size (412 px wide), counting the bytes that arrived over the network until the page went quiet; the table shows the median of the 3 runs. Every site is in the demo gallery; open any of them and check for yourself.
What these numbers do not say
- Different methods. The Almanac crawled millions of sites in July 2025 with an emulated phone, home pages and inner pages; we measured 11 home pages ourselves. Treat the gap as a direction, not a decimal.
- Weight is not the whole story. In the same Almanac, 74% of Wix sites passed Google's Core Web Vitals on phones with real visitors, against 45% of WordPress sites. Wix has improved a lot; we have no comparable real-visitor figure for our platform yet.
- Any site can be made heavy. A WordPress site built with care can be light, and an iNterGine site full of huge photos can be heavy. The difference is where you start.
What a lighter site means for your business: what one client site earns you and costs you in hours, and straight answers about switching.
